About Validation:
“Validation is one of the most important things you, as a parent or caregiver, can give your child to help him thrive and become a fully functioning adult. It helps the child develop autonomy and a positive sense of self and more-so assist in the prevention of emotional problems and to a more severe condition of emotional disorders.
Validation is needed for every developmental stage in life.
With each physical stage of development, there are comparable psychosocial stages of development, cognitive stages of development, moral stage of development for the male and moral stages of the development for the male and moral stages of development for the female and includes the emotional stages of development.
Parental validation of a child is just as important as providing a child’s physical needs as survival of food, clothing and shelter. Just as we give a child the tool to fight the physical challenges in life, as Parents we are required to also provide the tools to the child to face and conquer social, moral emotional, and cognitive challenges. Validation will do just that.
Recently, American society is protesting the aggressive approach by law enforcement over policing of the African male, and the senseless deaths as a result. These tragic events are very unfortunate under every reasonable consideration. Yet, we know that not only has the environment contributed to the physical death of many African American males, it has also contributed to the psychological death of many more.
In other words, there are many minority individuals in our society who are physically alive but psychologically dead. Such condition leads to painful experiences to oneself, one’s family and friends and eventually a torturous life leading to physical death.
Validation gives the answers to your sons and daughters life’s questions. According to Eldridge (2001) if those life’s questions are not answered, the child continues to search for answers for the rest of their life until they get the answer they deserve and need. Sadly, to admit, some children never get their life questions answered. Hence, they live a life of dis-satisfaction and defeat.
Children who are not transitionally validated into adulthood never quite mature holistically and manifest psychological deficiencies that is evident in behavior and decision making.
One of the greatest contribution parents could make to their child/children is to validate them into adulthood.
Our Part:
As an African Organization, we would foster avenues for parents to do what is needed. Being able to provide a space where the parents can Validate their children through having “Rites of passage/Validation ceremony”
The age group targeted would be 16 years to 25 years.
AFRIDU would be a sponsor for these ceremonies that is so vital and important for our children especially those of African descent.
AFRIDU will educate and coach parents into the validation process and activities.
AFRIDU will provide counseling and training to fathers and significant males in conducting validation speech.
At these ceremonies Scholarships will be given out to those young people who have just graduated from high school and transitioning to the College atmosphere.
OUR GOAL:
AFRIDU-USA will like to give 5 – 10 Scholarships to graduated individuals of $1,500 -$2,000 from a scholarships fund that would have been created.
